1999 finished with 125 members, keeping the average of last three years. It had been a very active year and we are very proud to accomplish in our groups all mountaineering areas:

In the climbing area, eight members of UMA participated in the regional climbing contest, being four of them classified and obtaining the 2nd place in females, 2nd place junior and 3rd place males. Jose Manuel Molina rolled in the Canarian Federation team for the National Climbing Contest, reaching the #32 position.

In the alpinism area, our members have brought to the club four "five thousand", three in Andes (Sur del Cerro Cuerno 5642 m - being the first one Canarian, Cerri Manso 5575 m y Morro Catedral 5100 m) and one in Tanzania (Machame route in Kilimanjaro 5985 m). Besides, they accomplish six "four thousand", three in Alps (Cervino 4474 m, Mont Blanc de Tacul 4250 m y Mont Dolent 4000 m) and three in High Atlas (Jbel Toubkal 4167 m, Ras N'Ouanoukrim 4083 m and Timesguida 4089 m). Ice climbing also was practised in Glencoe, Scotland.

Mountain skiing was present last year in many Mount Teide areas.

Our Potholing group keep being one of the more dynamic, doing activities all weekends, four of them in other islands of the archipelago. They also develop a permanent maintaining labour of the equipment of our ravines, as well as opening of new ones.

In the Trekking area, many activities was accomplished all weekends, remarking the XVI edition of the integral Anaga massif journey in honour of our companion Jose Manuel González "El Metra". There was accomplished one journey to Gran Canaria, two to La Gomera and one to El Hierro. Furthermore we organized two excursions to La Gomera and five ascensions to Pico del Teide as a collaboration for the National Mountain Camp of FEDME. Out of our islands, there were accomplished trips to Picos de Europa, Bulgaria and Pampa Argentina.

In the cycling area we organized the VII Tenerife Out of road Cycling Tour. With an event each month, our group is one of the few mountain groups which offer this activity to their members.

In the divulgation and cultural area, we offer to our members three courses in "Ravine Descent" and three in "Discovering the Potholing", there were showed many slides session in our locale and there were giving six lectures in public learning centers. We also collaborate with Canary Photoling Federation assembling an artificial cave in their IV Adventure and Travel Exposition stand, with a great accepting of the younger public.

In the formative area, one more year, many members of the group enlisted to the Alpinism Beginning Course of the EEAM Benasque, Huesca. People who began in 1998, also have continued with their formation in ski practice, this time in Spyndleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic.

After many years assigning the efforts to the indoor climbing center, our group began this year to improve the conditions of our refuge. Mainly we put a PVC waterproof layer to prevent the humidity infiltration which was affecting severely to the roof, as well as furniture maintenance.
